The exhibition represents the final event of the design studio Interfaces in Alta Langa, part of the Master's in Architecture for Sustainability at the Polytechnic University of Turin. From October 2023 to February 2024, students from 16 different nationalities explored the environmental, social, and production dynamics of the Alta Langa territory, an area that stretches along the former SS661, commonly known as "La Pedaggera," a ridge road that historically connected Turin with the Ligurian Riviera. In the five municipalities involved - Sale Langhe, Murazzano, Belvedere Langhe, Dogliani, and Monchiero - complex themes reflecting the challenges of our time have emerged: social weaknesses and inequalities, depopulation and depletion of services, climate crisis, and ecosystem fragility. The same territory is also a place of ferment, where opportunities and new initiatives are already underway: new forms of nomadic living, models of slow and sustainable tourism, locally produced low-impact agricultural products, and collaborations among small producers to avoid the exploitation of seasonal workers. The 11 proposals serve as tools to explore the possibilities and limits of the sites, to encourage collective reflection within the community of administrators and citizens, rather than offering definitive answers. In the setting of Palazzo Tovegni in Murazzano (CN), maps, sketches, and drawings showcase the students' projects, while a series of 1:250 and 1:500 scale models allow the public to understand the spatiality of the proposals and envision them within the urban fabric they inhabit. Large plans in OSB, fir easels, and prisms made of welded wire mesh from construction sites transform the stately spaces of Palazzo Tovegni into a true architect's studio for the two days of the exhibition.
