Space is the first yearbook of research by students of the DASP, the Doctorate in Architecture: History and Design at the Polytechnic University of Turin. With the support of Ilaria Bossa from MONO studio, an informal publication open to all, like a magazine, was designed to convey the complexity of the DASP structure and its relationships, bringing together diverse doctoral research projects, both in terms of theme and level of advancement, on a common platform. An ideal Space through which doctoral candidates could narrate their stories. An astral Space that hosts the various constellations that make up the doctoral program. A physical Space, akin to the focus of architectural research. In its aesthetics, the publication is inspired by Italian literary series of the 1960s, such as the Piccola Biblioteca Einaudi, a pocket-sized universal collection of essays, and URANIA and Arnoldo Mondadori's science fiction series. From these, the DASP Yearbook borrows the small pocket-sized format and the use of three primary colors (white, black, and red) that characterized the stylistic choices of both publishing houses at the time: for Einaudi, the strong identity imprint of Bruno Munari and for Mondadori, that of the Art Director Anita Klinz. In the book, each major area is defined by a color that identifies the content of the pages, where the recurring structure adapts flexibly to the specific differences between different cycles and among doctoral candidates within the same cycle. Images and diagrams are standardized in the use of black and white, allowing for a sense of continuity. A playful packaging, a metallic shipping envelope, transforms the publication into a survival kit for all astronauts venturing into the space of DASP.
