Transforming a problem into a design opportunity. Turning waste into a resource. Translating landscape into a design object. There have been many different actions underlying the 770THz workshop, as many, perhaps infinite, as the glass bottles reused for this project. The problem was simple: the open spaces of Cascina Crocetta, headquarter of Banca del Fare project, needed to be illuminated at night. The solution proposed by the participants, guided by Fabulism office, was equally simple: a luminous, mobile, and easily replicable installation inspired by the viticultural landscape, with wine as the primary material. Much like the terraced landscape of Alta Langa, composed of overlapping fields, hazelnut groves, woods, and stone walls, cylinders of glass, crafted from reclaimed wine bottles (found in the abandoned houses of the nearby Borgata Sant'Ilario), are layered over disks of local chestnut wood, creating fragile yet sturdy objects, akin to the poles supporting the vine rows. These layers, illuminated from within by LED strips, are anchored on untreated wooden trunks, providing stability on the ground. Each lamp, whose dimensions are inspired by the recurring proportions in grape cultivation, can be used in various areas of the Cascina, where they can collectively illuminate an entire field or individually provide light to a table, illuminating evening dinners and gatherings.
